Aruán Ortiz | Flamenco Criollo Ensemble

Africa, Spain, and Cuba meet in an adventurous mix of flamenco and dazzling Afro-Cuban rhythms. In 2021, Cuban pianist, director, and composer Aruán Ortiz gathered a unique ensemble in order to investigate the roots of flamenco. The result is a collaboration between 11 musicians from Cuba, Morroco, Palestine, and Spain, combining a suite of original 17th and 18th century Moorish melodies that travel via Spain to colonial Cuba and back to the Iberian peninsula full of new rhythms.

James Brandon Lewis is at the top of the international jazz world. He stands in the tradition of saxophonists such as Sonny Rollins, Albert Ayler, and John Coltrane. With his powerful, direct, and rich tenor saxophone sound and a lyrical quality that unfolds in both his solos and his compositions, he is causing a sensation. Transfiguration is the fourth album by the acclaimed James Brandon Lewis Quartet with Aruán Ortiz, Brad Jones, and Chad Taylor. The quartet was honored with the German Jazz Award as Band of the Year 2023. "Til Grete" Concert tribute to Grete Skarpeid feat: Aruán Ortiz - Rob Waring Duo at Vossa Jazz Festival

Aruán Ortiz returns to the Vossa Jazz Festival, (where they presented her first album, “My Songs” (Neuklang 2016) to perform an intimate concert tribute titled “For Grete,” re-interpreting a selection of songs from her two albums composed by Grete Skarpeid, and arranged, produced and performed by Aruán. The concert will guest American vibraphonist and composer Rob Waring, who played on her second album “Beyond Other Stories” (Origin Records 2021), and acclaimed Norwegian singer Berit Opheim.
